Li Hongwei received an MFA from the School of Art and Design of Alfred University in 2007. As a tenured faculty member of the College of Fine Arts at the Capital Normal University and a visiting scholar at Alfred University, Li splits his time between Beijing and New York. He is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics (Geneva) and the Chinese Sculpture Institute (Beijing). When Li was awarded the Taylor Prize at the 2013 France International Salon, the chairman of the committee commented, "His work is a reflection of plural thoughts and their ongoing changes in contemporary Chinese cultural context."
Li Hongwei’s work is included in the collections of The British Museum, London; The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston; The Art Institute of Chicago; The Israel Museum, Jerusalem; The Alfred Ceramic Art Museum, NY; China APEC International Conference Center; The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, Texas; Crocker Art Museum, CA; New Orleans Museum of Art; and others. Over the years, his works have been exhibited in: the National Art Museum of China; the Louvre; the Art Institute of Chicago; the Fox Art Gallery of the University of Pennsylvania; and the Dublin Castle in Ireland, among others.
