Marco Abarca
Represented by Pucker Gallery since 2003
BORN: 1962 in Xalapa, Mexico
RESIDES: Oaxaca, Mexico
Marco Abarca studied art and sculpture at the University of Veracruz in Xalapa, Mexico. After graduating in 1985 he began painting, sculpting, and writing stories. Abarca moved from place to place until he chose to make a permanent home in Oaxaca, Mexico as the beauty, culture, light, and serenity of the city captivated him. Continually drawing inspiration from childhood experiences, Abarca takes his fondness of the circus and memories of nature and incorporates it into his artwork. Abarca also creates wooden sculptures that capture the whimsical narrative of the stories he has written.
